Remember this…

In the interest of using this blog as a place to permanently capture memories and stories, I have two things I wanted to get down tonight before bed.

First: the kids and I spent another afternoon at the Adel pool today- and they both had new tricks. They insisted on spending the majority of their time in the deep end with the big kids…Jaeley diving over and over, and Brevin doing flips off the side. This follows a trip to the Hampton aquatic center this summer where Brevin went off the high dive a few times. Wow! B and J- consider it “on the record” that you were little fish at ages 4 and 5…and Jae announced during a break that she was going to be a lifeguard when she grew up and Brev concurred. Time will tell:)

Second: A story from last spring (April/May 2011)

Jaeley had been having trouble at daycare. She had been hitting and yelling at friends when she got upset. She even bit someone. My hunch was that she was feeling left out because she was the the part-timer there and didn’t feel like she was fitting in. I had used up all my counselor tricks- including starting her on a behavior chart. We were at our wits-end and didn’t know what to do about it!  One day after dropping Brevin off at school, she was looking out the window of the van on the way home and said matter of factly, “Mommy, God talked to me in my dream last night.”  I waited, not wanting to lead her, but she didn’t say anything so I prompted “Yah? What did he say?”

Jaeley answered, “He gave me a hug and telled me he loved me and not to be mean.”

All I can say is that she didn’t have any problems the rest of the year, and that I’m in awe of God’s ability to get through to such a little person. Bet it would help a lot of people to get a hug and be told they are loved:)

Jaeley You’re a Firework…

Shawn and Amanda’s Fairytale Wedding

The excitement has been building for months and the big weekend was finally here! My cousin Shawn and Amanda’s wedding in Hinckley, IL. It was a wonderful weekend with the family and we were honored to get to be a part of it.

The setting for the reception was straight out of a storybook- a remodeled barn and farm set in the rolling hills of the countryside. Amazing!

We met Mom, Dad, and Judd in Iowa City and all piled into the swagger wagon to continue on to IL. When we got to the hotel we enjoyed a cocktail before the rehearsal. Apparently it was “blue day” for the men in our fam.

Here is a start to the photo album…I’m having trouble getting all the pics together, so I’ll start here and add more as I go along!

Jaeley the chef

2011-6-29 001
Today Jaeley received a late birthday present from the Hunzekers- an apron and a chef hat. It went on the minute she got it and has not taken it off. Of course we had to test it out- she grabbed a cookbook and chose a pasta salad to prepare for us.

In the cookbook, they showed it served in colorful bowls…so guess what she had to do….

Tonight I was out, so Adam put her to bed and this is what I found when I got home: chefs need to rest too:) I may need to convince her that she can also prepare pretend food or we’ll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen…

A Girl’s Weekend (with kids and husbands)

2011-6-25 028
This is how our annual girls’ weekend usually goes…just the ladies out on the town. And we did get to sneak away late last night to a roof-top pub for a little bit of alone time. But we decided to invite our families along for the fun this year and earlier in the day it looked more like this…
